2023 Year in Review

2023 Year in Review

Reconciliation WA (RWA) held our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 7 December, where our membership elected three Board Members and the 2022/23 Annual Report was presented to our members.

It was a significant AGM for Reconciliation WA, with Aboriginal Co-Chair Carol Innes ending her 7-year tenure, and inaugural Board Member Irina Cattalini also retiring from the Board.

Carol leaves a powerful legacy of determination and reconciliation outcomes, and we thank her immensely for her profound impact and contribution to Reconciliation WA. We also acknowledge and farewell Irina, and thank her for her many years of valuable contribution that has helped make Reconciliation WA what it is today.

We were delighted to see the election of new Board Members Kyra Galante, and Debra Zanella, and it was of course wonderful to see Timothy Marney re-elected. It was also our first AGM with new Aboriginal Co-Chair Nolan Hunter.

We are proud to maintain at least 50% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander representation on our Board, and look forward to the perspectives our new and existing Board Members will bring as we consider the future vision of reconciliation in WA.

In a challenging year, we want to express our profound gratitude to the many Aboriginal Elders and Leaders who have supported the reconciliation movement on its journey. Your guidance, resilience, and kindness have been a beacon. We assure you that Reconciliation WA’s allyship remains unwavering and strong, especially in these testing times. We commit to continuing to advocate for meaningful change.

Yesterday evening we made an important announcement regarding the future vision of reconciliation in our post-referendum world. We are pleased to announce in 2024 Reconciliation WA will be leading these discussions with reconciliation supporters across WA so we can create our future vision for the State together. You can read more information below.

We encourage all our members and supporters to read our Annual Report, presented at last night’s AGM, which includes our report for the organisation’s Voice to Parliament advocacy efforts.

Help us shape Western Australia’s
reconciled future

In 2024, Reconciliation WA will be leading Western Australia’s post referendum discussions, as we consider the future vision of the reconciliation movement.

We will be holding these yarns in February and March 2024, in partnership with a number of key organisations to ensure a broad community of views are heard.

There will be a range of ways for you to contribute, whether you would like to provide a quick comment, or to engage in longer discussions.

Whether you live regionally or in metro areas, there will be avenues to provide your input, and safe spaces will be created for both mob and ally discussions.

Please share this digital flyer with your networks to help us spread the word, and please register your interest if you would like to get involved.

Season’s Greetings

The team at Reconciliation WA wish you a safe and restful festive season.

Our office will close from the 12pm Friday 22 December, with the team returning refreshed and ready to support, drive and advocate for another year of reconciliation action on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Boordawan,

The Reconciliation WA Team.
