In 2029, Western Australia will mark 200 years since the founding of the Swan River Colony and more than 60,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodianship.
On behalf of the Western Australian Government, Reconciliation WA, together with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and Community Arts Network, will be holding community conversations to inform recommendations about how the 2029 Bicentenary should be reocgnised and the legacy it can leave for future generations. The 2029 Bicentenary presents an opportunity to reflect on our State’s history, recognise the diversity of our communities, honour the cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and build unity, belonging and connection across the State.

2029 Yarns
Over the coming months, we’ll be hosting a series of big and little yarns across the Kimberley, Pilbara, Mid West and Greater Perth. We want to hear a wide range of perspectives from communities across Western Australia, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Elders, young people, families, community organisations, local government, Reconciliation WA members and others.
