Reconciliation Memoirs

Our fifth Memoir features June Oscar. Reconciliation WA, supported by Wesfarmers. RWA have produced the memoirs of a longstanding champion in the reconciliation movement every National Reconciliation Week since 2022.

A proud Bunuba woman from Fitzroy Crossing, June Oscar AO is an Indigenous rights advocate, community health and welfare champion, filmmaker, and former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission (2017–2025). Her leadership continues to influence national conversations on justice, women’s rights, language revitalisation, and community empowerment.

Written in collaboration with Victoria Laurie, the Patrick Dodson Memoirs was launched on Thursday, 29 May at the Subiaco Arts Centre.

Reconciliation Memoirs

Our fourth Memoir features the Father of Reconciliation and former Senator, Patrick Dodson. Reconciliation WA, supported by Wesfarmers. RWA have produced the memoirs of a longstanding champion in the reconciliation movement every National Reconciliation Week since 2022.

Mr Dodson was a Senator for Western Australia from 2016 to 2024, representing the Australian Labor Party. He is a Yawuru elder from Broome, Western Australia, and has long been honoured as the Father of Reconciliation in Australia.

This year, he joined National Reconciliation Week as our keynote speaker and featured in the Reconciliation Memoir. Through a personal and powerful conversation, Patrick Dodson shared his life experiences, insights, and vision for reconciliation and justice with former Liberal Minister Ken Wyatt —offering a rare opportunity to learn from two of Australia’s most influential First Nations advocates.

This marks the fourth instalment in the Reconciliation Memoirs series, following Fred Chaney OAM (2022), Dr Richard Walley OAM (2023), and Carol Innes AM (2024). Together, these Memoirs honour the voices, leadership, and enduring impact of reconciliation trailblazers.
