Fire Keepers meet in Tambellup for the Great Southern Place-based RAP

An exciting milestone was reached in August, as the Fire Keepers Committee – the working group responsible for leading and guiding the Great Southern Place-based Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), held its first in-person meeting in Tambellup.  As Australia’s first Place-based RAP, the Great Southern RAP represents a unique, community-led approach to reconciliation across the region. The gathering began with a grounding On Country experience with local Elder, Uncle John Farmer at the Tambellup Noongar Reserve.

The meeting served as a chance for the members, alongside Reconciliation WA and Reconciliation Australia staff, to establish governance and administration processes that will support effective implementation of the RAP. The Fire Keepers Committee will meet monthly and work closely with the broader Reconciliation Action Network (RAN), providing leadership and support to help achieve the RAP’s deliverables. The group is meeting again this week in Gnowangerup, hosted by the Gnowangerup Aboriginal Corporation.

We look forward to sharing more updates as this important work continues. To learn more about the Rising program, and the Great Southern Place-based RAP, visit https://www.recwa.org.au/respect-rising/
