True Sport Cultural Education Initiative

Sport has the power to bring people together, create a sense of belonging, and strengthen inclusive communities.
As the peak body for sport in WA, SportWest recently launched the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative.
Developed in partnership with SportWest’s Cultural Navigation Lead Sharon Wood-Kenney and First Nations sports professionals Phil and Jade Narkle, the initiative supports State Sporting Associations, clubs, and community organisations to create culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport.
Designed specifically for the Western Australian sporting sector, the initiative provides practical, accessible, and fit-for-purpose resources to help sporting organisations strengthen cultural understanding and work towards reconciliation.
Reconciliation WA caught up with True Sport Manager Jasmine Cappellucci to learn more about the initiative, its impact, and how it is helping create a more inclusive sporting community across Western Australia.
